At Casa Fugazi, a group of fourth-grade students studying Italian spent the day discovering the stories of San Francisco’s Italian-American community.

Before meeting the seniors at an Italian Community Services luncheon, the students explored Casa Fugazi, learning about its past and present and the people and traditions that have shaped this special place.

Then came the conversations. The children interviewed members of the senior community about their family stories, their journeys from Italy to San Francisco, favorite foods, music, and memories.
What began as a school assignment became a beautiful exchange between generations—young voices discovering the past, and older generations sharing stories that deserve to be remembered.
